Easy to make and ONOLICIOUS lunch ideas
I enjoy predictability and repetition, so I actually like eating the same things every day. Most people are not like that however, and I am often asked to give a number of healthy ideas for food…mostly because people want to cherry pick what sounds the least healthy. Here are some really simple and ONOLICIOUS ideas for healthy lunches. A couple of them are less on the healthy side, but really, when you make your food yourself and skip adding sugar, most foods really are not that bad. If the alternative is getting a 1,200 calorie salad, you are better off making something with a little indulgence.
Apple nut butter sandwiches-
One of my favorite lunches (not that the time of day ever stopped me from eating anything) are apple nut butter granola sandwiches. Nut butters can be healthy for you because they are high in healthy fats and have a decent amount of protein. Of course make sure you choose the healthiest and most natural butters with limited or no added sugars, which add up fast. To make this lunch even healthier sprinkle in some golden flaxseed. Adding the golden flaxseed will add fiber to you meal. Adding fiber to your diet can help with digestion as well as maintaining your energy. I like it at lunch time because it helps to prevent that typical 2 or 3 o clock crash.
Strawberry nut butter wrap-
This either sounds amazing and you are wondering why you have not thought of it yourself, or you kind of cringe but with a curious look on your face. Choose whole wheat wraps, obviously, and then spread your favorite nut butter across it. Sometimes I like apple butter, sometimes I like cashew butter, I always like cookie butter, so I try to work my way around that aisle without looking back. After your spread your favorite nut butter slice up some fresh strawberries, pile them on, and roll up your wrap!
Cinnamon peanut butter strawberry sandwich-
same idea, but with cinnamon bread. Just when you thought lunch could not be more delicious. As long as you choose healthy and natural nut butter, the cinnamon bread is not too bad, especially if you bake it yourself. There are easy to use break makers now that will make you fall in love with carbohydrates all over again.
Cucumber feta cheese and pita -
of course, as always, choose a whole wheat pita. There are low-calorie options as well, but make sure the sodium, sugar, and fat are not higher to compensate for the low-calorie taste. Feta cheese is lower in calories than most other cheeses and is high in protein. The combination of the fat and protein from the cheese with the carbohydrates from the pita and the nutrients from the cucumber provides a healthy, easy to make and easy to pack lunch.
Cottage cheese fruit and veggie jar-
I love jar meals. They are cute, simple and about as easy to transport as it gets. You can make your cottage cheese jar however you like! Customize it! Go all yummy by adding only fruit, or all nutrient rich by adding only veggies, or go ham and do both. Why not?
have been popular for years now, but they are popular for good reason. Just like the cottage cheese parfaits, these are healthy, well rounded, easy and cheap! Add in fruit for flavor, and add mix in chia seeds, flax seeds and cacao nibs for your health!
If you try any of these ideas please let me know. They are so frikin yummy I want to make at least three of them right now. Will power is a real thing.
