Overwatch and Fitness?
Overwatch is the best game ever made, and I am its biggest fan. A brilliant friend of mine told me I should create workouts for video game characters. At first, I was not sure if it would work. I have not seen a lot of crossover in gamers and fitness fans. Finally, he talked me into it! Obviously, I had to choose Overwatch..and the decision was pretty clear who the best and most athletic male character is. Soldier 76.
Soldier 76 was part of a “soldier enhancement program” while serving his country in the military. The enhancements included increasing the soldier’s speed, strength, and agility. As awesome as some of the other characters are, this is exactly the type of character to emulate! To gain substantial, almost superhuman speed strength and agility you have to do more than push beyond your limits. The workout can be adjusted for people who are new to fitness, and then incrementally increase in difficulty as you make gains. The true workout that I created, however, was so intense I had to try it out on an athlete first. An undefeated MMA fighter and world-renowned jiu-jitsu fighter/competitor/professor did the workout. Here is what he had to say about it “The soldier workout is a complete body workout for both the beginner and the advanced workout enthusiast. It is ideal for anyone looking for a training program that will give you the fitness level you are looking for. I highly recommend. I can't emphasize how much the soldier workout changed my body. Not only is it fun, but it is an intense training program for the intense person.”
D.va is a young character in Overwatch, and my favorite to play, but for some creepy reason, she has an amazing body of an adult. I like to pretend she is not a child…because otherwise, it is just too weird. Other characters in the game have great bodies of course, but they tend to either be too cartoony or more hidden (Pharah). D.va is not known for superhuman abilities because she fights in a tank. Her body is just a nice plus. Therefore her workout is geared toward building an hourglass figure.
In addition to creating a male and female video game character workout, I also created two more, Winston and Zarya! Why would you want a workout for a giant monkey? Because he is AWESOME and incredibly powerful. He is as beasty as the Hulk, so, of course, you want to be beasty like him. One of Winston’s powers is to lunge long distances and pounce on his prey. His ultimate power is to go nuts, swinging and leaping and killing opponents. His workout is a combination of strength and conditioning so you can have impressive strength and knockout power, but also have Winston’s explosiveness. Win win.
Zarya another beast! Her arms are buff from carrying around that cannon! The only problem with that is it would not be practical for you to build your Zarya body by carrying cannons around, so I created a beasty strength workout to create the same buff build, but without getting you locked up. Zarya was an obvious choice. Bodybuilding is becoming more and more popular among women, not only at the bikini level but figure and bodybuilding as well. To achieve Zarya’s look you have to push past your past limits, set new PRs and eat lots of protein. Are you up for the challenge?
