Pre-Holiday Detox + Recipe
Pre holiday detox
With Christmas, Hanukkah and New Year's Eve right around the corner it can be helpful take some time to focus on your health before you splurge. You can enjoy the holidays without falling off the wagon completely, or enjoy the fall, but I do suggest taking some time to look out for your health.
I admit I hate cardio. I am just not interested, so what I do (at this point in my life) is keep the rest times in between sets to about 90 seconds. Rest times are just as important as the exercise itself! So stop ✋🚫❎❌👊🏽💢⚔️🙅🏻♂️🙅🏻 that yapping in between sets and focus. Of course if you are powerlifting it is a different story, but you already know that. Just about everyone else, stay focused. I also do supersets. Supersets are an art in itself, but that is another blog.
If you are up to HIIT, props to you!!! Do it, and then do a round for me please.
If HIIT is asking a little too much but you are down for steady state cardio, props to you too! Do a few minutes for me too.
Incorporate green smoothies into your diet
More beans and lentils
Ensure half of your plate consists of vegetables
Keep meat (chicken and turkey) to between 4-6 ounces depending on your weight and goals
Cut out all sodas
Reduce red meat
Replace desserts with Greek yogurt and protein shakes (they can be bomb) Hint: add more ice for an malt or thicker consistency
Reduce fast food (obviously)
These small changes can help you prepare for the holidays. You may also find that if you start making these changes now you will be able to eat less of the red meats and dense desserts when you do eat them!!
Green Smoothie Recipe
½ cup of spinach
Squeeze of lemon
Few cubes of ice
You can adjust however you want! This is just a simple easy recipe. Kale is very nutrient dense, but has a much stronger flavor than some people like, so if green smoothies are new to you consider starting with spinach. You can also add protein if you like. I personally keep my green and protein smoothies separate, but I know some recipes similar to this that include vanilla protein. If you try it let me know what you think. Feel free to comment below with your favorite recipes as well.
